How can I participate
Urban Sketchers Houston?
Participation
The
mission of Urban Sketchers Houston is to connect on-location sketchers across the
area. Participating in Urban Sketchers
Houston through events, workshops, Sketchcrawls and the Facebook page is open to
everyone. USK Houston doesn't have a "membership" per se.
Anyone can post on the USK Houston facebook page, and location sketchers
throughout the state are encouraged to do so:
Newcomers
are also encouraged to post on the global Urban Sketchers Facebook page and to link to our Instagram page:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/USKHouston -You will need to answer two simple security questions to join this group.
https://www.instagram.com/uskhouston/. Post your sketch to YOUR Insta account but include this hashtag #uskhouston. It's simple!
The
only "requirement" for posting on those pages is that the urban
sketches be done on location, from direct observation. If you are unsure, there is a pinned post on FB with a simple illustration to help. There is also a page here. Beginners are
welcome and encouraged, so please jump in!
Blog Correspondents
As
with global Urban Sketchers blog correspondents, USK Houston blog correspondents
are invited based on the quality of their work, style, originality, geographic
location and overall skills as visual storytellers. The goal is to make the
blog as diverse as possible in terms of geography and style.
Correspondents come from all corners of the state and have diverse backgrounds, from painting, architecture, journalism, advertising, illustration, graphic design or teaching. All of them share the same passion for drawing on location.
Being a correspondent means a strong involvement in our community of sketchers, including posting to the blog regularly —a minimum of twice a month— and offering feedback to fellow sketchers on the blog and Facebook page. Correspondents not only add individual drawings to the blog but also narrative explaining the circumstances in which the sketch was done or a particular story behind it.

Current
USK Houston blog correspondents review the Facebook posts and recommend new
correspondents to the blog administrator.
When a new blog correspondent is invited, they are asked to agree to our
shared commitment:
- To agree to adhere to the USK mission and
manifesto
- To post regularly--twice a
month minimum; more if possible
- To attend and help organize
local outings when possible.
- It is also suggested that anyone
interested in becoming a USKHouston correspondent apply for
membership in the global USK organization.
