We got in a sort of bonus sketchout in December to the Houston Fire Museum at old station Number 7. Kayoko worked on site in pen, as you can see in the header. Then she went home and finished it. Wowie! This is another good example of starting a sketch on site and adding to it at home.

before(left) and after |
A bunch of us went outside to sketch the building itself. Rain was threatening and we wanted to get that in before the storms started. |
Michelle |
Michelle worked very carefully to get it right. She sure captured that stormy sky. |
Jacklynn |
Jacklynn took a looser approach. I like the peek in the window on the left. |
Chris |
Got the brick in. Is it too busy? Maybe. |
Peter |
Peter swears that the dog walking by was a dalmatian. |
Susan |
Susan pulled back and got it more of the surroundings. She also gave us a sample of her palette. |
Briana |
Briana took a colorful approach. |
Maggie |
I believe Maggie chose just colored markers for her version.Several people worked indoors either in the engine bay downstairs or the bunk room upstairs.
|
Judith |
Judith headed for the bunk room. She reports that she drew the hat an the fire bucket and then thought "This isn't an urban sketch". So she included her view of the bunk and locker room. |
Cathy Bruhn |
Cathy drew the fire pole, which they have all plexiglassed off lest we get any big ideas. There is also an antique trampoline. |
Peter |
Peter drew the antique fire engine and collaged in the firefighter statue and some of the piping. |
Chris |
I drew a portion of the engine, working just in colored pencil with a bold approach. Then I added a suggestion of its setting for context. We had a throwdown, and then went off to lunch.
