January at the Museum of Natural Science

As you can see from the photo, we had quite a good turnout for a Tuesday evening at the Museum of Natural Science. It looks like it was a fun evening. Because the group was so large, rather than try to stitch together a series of photos for the throwdown, Judith made a little movie. I thought you might like to see it first. You really get a good view of everyone's work.

Of course, lots of people went right to the dinosaurs, but Susan chose the Cabinet of Curiosities that you see in the header.

Time goes by...in Enochs, Texas

ENOCHS, TEXAS is at the junction of State Highway 214 and Farm Road 54, three miles from the Cochran county line in southern Bailey County. It developed as a farming community and trading center beginning in the 1920s and reached a peak reported population of 250 in 1940, when it had five stores. In 1980 and 1990 its population was estimated at 164, and the town had several businesses and a post office. In 2000 the population was eighty with three remaining businesses.  This old garage and fillig station, was not among them.  It makes a great subject for a sketch of a time long past, though.  This sketch was done on location with a Micron 03..watercolor added later.

It was quite a challenge, as well as a step out of my comfort zone, to sketch this panorama of Pensacola.  At this scale things had to be dramatically simplified.  A lot of fun!

Dads and sons fishing trip to the San Juan River near Aztec, New Mexico!  What a great opportunity to blend 3 of my favorite things...son, flyfishing and sketching!  It was really fun to try to capture the essence of the trip in on-location, streamside sketches.  Doesn't get any better than this!
